Owners of the Vault restaurant in the Financial District have embraced the outdoor dining by opening Vault Garden, a 100-seat restaurant on the sprawling plaza of the 555 California building. The original Vault opened in April 2019 at the base of the site known commonly as the Bank of America Building.
The outdoor Vault Garden features food from executive chef Robin Song, a wine program by Lucas Bierbower, and cocktails by Kaitlin Ryan of Attagirl, as well as appropriately spaced tables, planters for a garden vibe and heaters for when Karl the Fog rolls into town. (Dining guests also will share the plaza with the massive, black granite sculpture, originally called Transcendence, but more widely known as The Banker’s Heart, a name given by famous San Francisco columnist Herb Caen.)
The all-day menu is scaled back slightly, but still features the original Vault’s signature double-patty Vault Burger and Parker House Rolls. Among the other menu highlights: Liberty Farm Duck Confit, Miso-Glazed Black Cod and Lemon-Peppered Fried Calamari.
