Dirty Girl Donuts Opens Permanent Retail Space in Downtown Sonoma

By Cicero A. Estrella

After garnering a large following as one of Sonoma’s buzzed-about pop-ups of 2020, Dirty Girl Donuts has opened a permanent retail location to serve up Marisa Wondolleck’s creations.

Get down to the new downtown Sonoma spot quickly because her loyal followers are snatching up the donuts while they’re still hot. The permanent location is just steps from Sonoma Plaza at 927 Broadway.

“As a Sonoma County native, it’s a dream come true to bring Dirty Girl Donuts to downtown Sonoma,” said founder and head baker Wondolleck. “I love coming up with artisanal donut creations based on everything from recent travels, to culinary trends, to seasonal produce. Sonoma feels like the perfect place to experiment with unexpected flavors and local ingredients—the donut opportunities are endless.”

Before we go any further, let’s have Wondolleck explain her business’ unique name.

“I’m a messy baker. Always have been covered in flour and chocolate. Always will be,” she said.

The Rohnert Park native launched her enterprise in 2016 when she was just 22 years old. Wondolleck learned professional baking techniques at a local culinary school and honed her skills in making custom cakes at top bakeries around the North Bay.

A brioche dough base provides the signature fluffy texture that has come to define Wondolleck’s donuts. She provides a rotating 14-item menu of seasonally inspired flavors and whimsical accents, as well as classic mainstays like creme brulee, lemon meringue, maple-bacon and vanilla bean. Weekend specials might include croissant muffins, croissant donuts, homemade cinnamon buns and gourmet pop-tarts.

Dirty Girl Donuts had a soft opening in mid-February, and at the time it typically sold out within just two and three hours after opening. It is open Thursday-Sunday between 7 a.m.-2 p.m., or until all the days’ donuts are all gone.

The permanent location also features a full coffee bar. For now, all items are available only for takeout.
